Outland
(4.4 / 5)
BLURB
It is up to six college pupils and their experimental physics plan to avoid the collapse of civilization when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts.
When an experiment to explore quantum uncertainty gets spectacularly incorrect, physics teacher Bill Rustad and his colleagues discover that an inter-dimensional gateway has inadvertently been formed. They associate with Outland— an alternative Earth with the same ecology, but where human beings have never developed. The group races to establish portal control before it can be taken away from the government, the military, or evildoers.
Then all shifts when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in a big enough flood to ruin civilization and kill part of the planet. The squad has only hours to get as many individuals across to Outland as feasible before they are overwhelmed by a deadly ash cloud.
The migrants have not been ready for what they find— a universe of few funds and unexpected risks. They have to know to live somehow, because Outland might not be just a secure haven — it might be their fresh residence.
