An adventure novel by French author Alexandre Dumas (père), completed in 1844, is The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo). It, along with The Three Musketeers, is one of the most famous works by the poet. It is extended, like many of his novels, from plot sketches suggested by Auguste Maquet, his collaborative ghostwriter.
